Abstract

In this study, we present the results on the perception that teachers of basic education have of preschool, primary and secondary schools in the city of Chihuahua, regarding the handling of emotional intelligence in school managers. School directors are the ones who determine the direction, set the strategies, monitor the compliance of standards, policies, and objectives, make decisions in each circumstance, evaluate results, create work teams, SEP (1986, p.27). Motivate, encourage, question and moderate the performance of educational workers, to name the most important activities. To develop a balanced managerial function according to the institutional guidelines, emotional intelligence is a relevant competence that every director must develop and possess. The research is based on the quantitative approach and uses the survey method. 128 teachers from federalized elementary schools were consulted from a sample of 13 schools, and the results are compared between the variables of emotional intelligence and managerial leadership to determine the skills of emotional intelligence perceived by teachers in their director apply managerial leadership. In the results, we can find which emotional intelligence skills are more related to the leadership applied by the school manager and thus recognize the main weaknesses and strengths of the managerial leadership, in order to improve those dimensions of emotional intelligence that observe deficiencies in the directive leadership.
